  3. Northumbria. He wrote many scientific,
  4. theological, and historical works. His
  5. Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis
  6. Anglorum/Ecclesiastical History of the
  7. English People 731 is a seminal source for
  8. early English history. Born at Monkwearmouth,
  9. Durham, he entered the local monastery at the
  10. age of seven, later transferring to Jarrow,
  11. where he became a priest in about 703. He
  12. devoted his life to writing and teaching;
  13. among his pupils was Egbert, archbishop of
  14. York.
